View Birds & Nature at Wildlife Refuge

Ridgefeld National Wildlife Refuge provides 5,150 acres of migration and wintering habitat for birds migrating through the Pacifc Flyway. The mild, rainy winter climate, combined with wetlands along the Columbia River, create ideal resting and feeding areas for a variety of species, including ducks, geese, swans, eagles, owls, and other wildlife such as beaver, deer, and elk.

Oregon Trail Experience

Between 1840 and 1860, from 300,000 to 400,000 travelers used the 2,000-mile overland route to reach Oregon, Washington, and California destinations. The journey took up to six months, with wagons making between 10-20 and miles per day of travel. My ancestor, Frank O’Neil, founded one of the oldest successful wagon manufacturers in St. Louis. His business, “Murphy & Sons” built an astonishing 200,000 wagons! We’ll begin at Fort Vancouver along the Columbia River and Oregon Trail, stopping along the way to view and learn. We will end our own journey at the Oregon Trail Museum.
